My Portfolio
There are many stocks to choose from when it comes down to building your portfolio. A portfolio is all of the stocks that you own. All of your investments show up in one section, which we call your portfolio. In this section you can see the amount of each stock you own and the total of all of them combined.
I wanted to talk a bit about mine and what I've achieved and learned. As we all know, there are thousands of stocks, from Nvidia to smaller stocks like COIN and HOOD. There are also different cryptocurrencies such as the biggest one bitcoin and a few others like XRP and Ethereum. There are a few key pros and cons when it comes down to decide whether to invest in stocks or in crypto. To understand these pros and cons we first have to understand the difference between the stock market and different cryptocurrencies. The stock market represents ownership in a company. You may get dividends and voting rights, depending on the shares, whereas crypto is the digital assets based on blockchain technology. They don’t represent ownership in a company (though some tokens may grant utility or governance rights).
Another key difference between the stock market and crypto is that the stock market is heavily regulated by government agencies (e.g., SEC in the U.S.). Transparency, reporting, and protections exist for investors whereas crypto is less regulated (varies by country). Some cryptocurrencies offer more freedom, but also more risk of scams, hacks, and sudden regulation changes. Another key difference is what we call volatility, what I mean by this is that the stock prices fluctuate but are generally within predictable ranges, tied to company performance, earnings, and the economy, and the cryptocurrencies are extremely volatile.
A key thing to remember is that a coin can rise or fall 20–50% in a single day, often driven by speculation or news. After you compare all of these differences, you can decide what you want to buy.
My portfolio is mainly made up of stocks with a few cryptocurrencies. I tend to stick more towards investing in stocks because for me it's the safer route and I can average between 6-10% profit a year. I currently hold shares in companies such as Google, Meta, Amazon, Nvidia, Tesla and a bunch more. Some cryptocurrencies that I hold are XRP, Bitcoin, and Ethereum. I usually tend to sell my cryptocurrencies and stay more focussed on stocks, the reason for this is because I know more about stocks and they tend to move slower. Crypto can go up a lot or drop a lot on an average basis which makes it hard to manage.
What I've found out is that the best way to invest is to spread out your portfolio. What I mean by this is that you don't keep all of your money in one or two stocks but in 10-20. For example I only listed 4 but in reality I am invested in around 50 different stocks. I don't have an even amount of money in each of these but more in some and less in others. The reason I do this is so if the tech industry has a bad day then I still have a chance of making money in one of the other stocks. This can minimize your losses which in the long run is very important. Currently Nvidia is my biggest investment closely followed by Amazon, then Meta, Tesla, Microsoft, Hood, coin and a few others. In cryptocurrencies I am mainly invested in Bitcoin closely followed by XRP and then solana and dogecoin.
In my opinion, investing is one of the key things to being financially stable. The key is picking out good stocks or cryptos to buy and then spreading your assets around in order to minimize your losses.
